Being a mom isn’t easy. I have been designing children’s clothing for nearly a decade, and have been a mother for nearly five years. If there’s something changed in my approach to children’s clothes after becoming a mother, it is what I’m learning about other mothers through what their kids wear.
My eldest son Noam is not a big talker, and in order to learn about his day at kindergarten I observe the hints he carries with him: a painting he has made tells me they’ve been studying about the weather, the stain on his shirt indicates that he has eaten meatballs, the sticker on his shirt tells me he helped tidy up today, and the scratch on his knee betrays his fall. I use tools from my professional world to collect Noam’s experiences and tell his story and my own as a mom.
