The study examined the complex relationship between human artwork and generative AI, with emphasis on its influence on creativity, design processes and professional identity. AI tools can improve the artist’s work, develop new artistic dimensions and contribute to innovative interactions, but they also raise concerns about authenticity, emotional depth and artistic identity.
The study used both quantitative and qualitative methods, including two surveys (n=51, n=105), observations, self-documentation, and 26 semi-structured interviews with artists, designers and content creators who use AI tools. In addition, a prototype test was conducted using a personal AI agent.
The study’s conclusions led to the development of menti.ai – an AI-based professional development system, which provides an innovative and comprehensive solution for monitoring and empowering artists’ professional development. The system strikes a balance between the strengths of AI and the artist’s personal expression, professional identity and creativity. It identifies unique qualities, helps with career development, acts as a personal mentor and career counselor, enables reflection, and strengthens the individuals’ brand.
